NT Labor Govt loses 2nd MLA in 11 days

The NT Labor Government has lost a second MP in 11 days after Alice Springs-based Scott McConnell resigned.

The dominance of the Northern Territory's Labor government continues to erode with the Alice Springs-based Member for Stuart Scott McConnell quitting the party.

He is the second Labor member to resign in 11 days following Jeff Collins' resignation.

The pair along with former Primary Industry and Resources and Aboriginal Affairs Minister Ken Vowles were kicked out of the Labor caucus by Chief Minister Michael Gunner shortly before Christmas.

An email written by Mr Vowles to colleagues criticising the government over its economic management was released while all three publicly criticised Mr Gunner.

Mr Gunner said Mr Vowles broke cabinet confidentiality while the other two broke "caucus values and standards signed up to" but Mr Collins accused him of not allowing alternative views.

Labor has gone from having 18 MPs to 16 in the 25-member parliament.

The Alice Springs-based Mr McConnell has been contacted for comment.

He was only in his first term after the 2016 election but had quit as an assistant minister, saying a year ago that he would not recontest amid frustrations over the political process and delivery of promises to remote areas.

He said he had made a "huge error of judgement", and did not have a voice in trying to influence government policy in remote areas.
