A man accused of escaping a Northern Territory prison and fleeing to NSW in a stolen car has been arrested after almost three weeks on the run.

One of his alleged accomplices has also been nabbed by police, while two others are believed to be hiding near Broken Hill in far west NSW.

Twenty-year-old Jermaine Austral, who allegedly escaped Alice Springs prison on December 23, was arrested about 1500km away on Wednesday afternoon after two police pursuits through the isolated mining town of Broken Hill.

He is expected to be extradited to the Northern Territory, where he is wanted on an arrest warrant.

Three others fled the scene, but soon after police were called to a Newton Lane home following reports two men had burst inside and bashed the occupants.

Two men escaped in a silver station wagon stolen from the house when officers arrived and the vehicle was last spotted heading east on the Barrier Highway near Wilcannia.

It's understood the third man was arrested on Thursday morning.
