NT set for 100km winds, 100mm rain

Areas of the Northern Territory have been issued a severe weather warning as its northern coastline braces for 100 kilometre wind gusts and 100mm of rainfall.

Northern coastal areas of the Northern Territory are bracing for torrential rain and 100 kilometre damaging winds.

A severe weather warning was issued by the Bureau of Meteorology on Sunday.

A monsoon trough was located near the northern Arnhem coast.

Within a 24-hour period on Sunday, 50-100mm of rainfall and wind gusts up to 100km/h are expected.

Coastal areas, including Jabiru, Maningrida and Numbulwar, will experience moderate to heavy rain.

As a result, flash flooding is possible for Sunday night.

Damaging winds and thunderstorms are expected for Cooinda, Bulman, Birany Birany but should ease late on Sunday.
