Nurses to strike across NSW

Planned strike action by nurses across NSW will go ahead to protest nurse-to-staff ratios.

Nurses across NSW have voted to take state-wide strike action in public hospitals and community health service centres.

Union delegates attended a special conference on Tuesday evening and voted unanimously to hold a strike on July 24.

The planned strike action will take the form of a special general meeting from 11.30am to 1pm (AEST) at Sydney Olympic Park sports centre.

The meeting will be broadcast live to union members in 17 regional towns and cities across NSW.

The NSW Nurses and Midwives Association will protest against patient-nurse staff ratios.

"Next Wednesday's nurses and midwives strike is the start of an ongoing industrial and community campaign over the next 12 months to secure guaranteed safer nurse staffing," association general secretary Brett Holmes said on Tuesday.

From Thursday, union branches will vote over the next three days on whether to join the strike action.
