The Nick Xenophon Team will soon be no more, with its titular leader no longer holding any parliamentary seat.

Instead, the party's three remaining federal representatives - Rebekha Sharkie, Stirling Griff and Rex Patrick - intend to unite under the name Centre Alliance.

The party has lodged an application with the electoral commission to formally change to the new name, which it says more accurately reflects its current and future parliamentary makeup.
