Fremantle defender Ryan Nyhuis has been referred directly to the AFL tribunal over his slam tackle which knocked out Port Adelaide star Robbie Gray.

Gray was knocked unconscious and stretchered off early in the third quarter of Sunday's game in Perth after being body slammed into the turf.

Port players remonstrated angrily with Nyhuis while medical staff attended to Gray, who was lying motionless on the ground.

Nyhuis has been charged with rough conduct and does not have the option of an early guilty plea.

The incident was classed as careless conduct with severe impact to the head, a charge likely to result in Nyhuis being suspended for at least three games.

"It looked excessively forceful ... that was taken into account in terms of determining the impact," match review officer Michael Christian told reporters on Monday.

"In this particular case, there looked to be more than one action and the fact that he drove Robbie Gray into the ground in a vulnerable position with excessive force was pretty conclusive that it did sit quite comfortably within the dangerous tackle guidelines."

Adelaide midfielder Bryce Gibbs will also head to the tribunal on Tuesday night to challenge his fine for rough conduct on Geelong's Joel Selwood.

Gibbs copped a $3000 sanction for the off the ball incident in Thursday night's game at Adelaide Oval.

An early guilty plea would have reduced the fine to $2000.

Teammate Taylor Walker has accepted a one-game suspension for a high bump on Geelong defender Zach Tuohy and will miss the Crows' clash with Brisbane.

Walker is the only other player this season to have challenged a financial sanction.

The Crows skipper successfully contested his $2500 fine for misconduct on West Coast's Luke Shuey in round 15.

Carlton midfielder Jed Lamb copped a one-game ban for attempting to eye-gouge St Kilda's Jade Gresham.

Lamb was charged with making unreasonable or unnecessary contact to the eye region over the incident, classified as careless conduct with medium impact to the head.

The skirmish occurred during the second quarter of the Saints' 64-point win at Etihad Stadium on Friday night.

Lamb also kneed Gresham during the same incident but the impact wasn't sufficient to warrant a charge.

Hawthorn's Jaeger O'Meara, Collingwood's Levi Greenwood, Brisbane's Darcy Gardner and Fremantle's Nathan Wilson have all been offered fines for incidents in Saturday and Sunday's games.

Wilson copped two $1500 misconduct fines for jumper-punches on Port Adelaide skipper Travis Boak.
