Injured New Zealand snowboarder Zoi Sadowski-Synnott has claimed slopestyle gold at the world ski championships based on preliminary results after the final was cancelled due to high winds.

The 17-year-old wasn't required to compete in Utah on Sunday and luckily so after she was banged up in qualifying and suffered a concussion which would ordinarily have ruled her out.

Organisers determined the medallists based on earlier placings, with Silje Norendal of Norway taking silver and two-time US Olympic champion Jamie Anderson awarded bronze.

American Chris Corning was crowned the men's winner based on the same formula.

It was quite a break for Sadowski-Synnott, who acknowledged she wasn't going to be able to ride in the final.

The young Kiwi completed what turned out to be a winning first run in qualifying on Saturday before being injured on her second attempt.

She later told Radio New Zealand she had concussion.

"I was really stoked with yesterday's run," said Sadowski-Synnott, who won the slopestyle at the Winter X Games last month.

"I really liked the course. I thought it had a really nice flow. I love the options for the rails. They gave you a ton to experiment with and get creative with."

The weather in Utah proved tricky all week, leading to the cancellation of the women's ski slopestyle and the snowboard big air final.
