A broken arm from a training mishap in the nets will sideline New Zealand cricketer Grant Elliott for at least a month.

New Zealand cricketer Grant Elliott will be sidelined for at least a month after breaking his arm in a training accident.

Elliott put his arms up to defend himself from a ball that had been struck at him in the nets and suffered a fracture close to his wrist.

He is expected to be out of action for four to six weeks, putting him in doubt for New Zealand's one-day international (ODI) against Sri Lanka on Boxing Day.

Elliott said: "My hand feels pretty good but mobility could be the issue."

New Zealand will play ODIs against Sri Lanka, Australia and Pakistan in coming months and Elliott is expected to be a key player after his standout performance at this year's World Cup.
