New Zealand Prime Minister Bill English has had his first phone call with US President Donald Trump.
Mr English took a quick break from Waitangi Day celebrations in Auckland to take the call on his mobile phone as he sat in his car.
The prime minister tweeted a picture taken of him during the conversation.
"Spoke with @POTUS @realDonaldTrump about the economy, trade, defence and immigration. I also thanked him for US support for Kaikoura," he said.
Mr English is expected to speak to the media about the call later on Monday.
It was the pair's first conversation since Mr Trump's inauguration last month and appears to have gone more smoothly than the US president's conversation with Australia's Malcolm Turnbull.
In his phone call with Mr Turnbull last week, Mr Trump reportedly blasted the PM over Australia's refugee deal with the US before cutting the call short and declaring it the "worst call by far".
Mr Trump later described the reports - which have become the subject of a blistering comedy skit on the US TV show Saturday Night Live - as "fake news" with Mr Turnbull insisting it was cordial.
Earlier, New Zealand's deputy Prime Minister Paula Bennett said she didn't know what the pair would talk about but there were a few issues the government wanted raised including trade and climate change.
