A conservative website, The Daily Caller, has published an old quote from President Obama's memoir 'Dreams From My Father' in which Obama recalls eating dog meat as a young boy in Indonesia.
The hashtag #ObamaDogRecipes became a Twitter sensation after the article was published, with users tweeting ideas for dog dishes including 'golden fried retriever' and 'pug chops'.
Republican candidate Mitt Romney was himself the subject of jokes after he transported his dog in a carrier on the roof of his car.
