Obama mugs in Buzzfeed ad for health care

The US president mugs, and slips on aviator sunglasses and fires finger pistols in a video encouraging young people to sign up for health insurance.

Barack Obama
US presidents are expected to uphold a certain level of decorum, but a new ad appearing on social media poses the question: So what does President Obama do when no one's around?

Obama, the father of two teenage daughters who was last year voted "coolest president" by MTV, has shown his silly side in the past by doing things that prior to the digital age might have seemed below the stature of his office.

Now the 53-year-old has made a new social media advertisement to remind young people to sign up for health insurance.

In the advertisement posted on Buzzfeed, Obama goes through a number of antics, including mugging in front of a mirror, slipping on aviator sunglasses and firing finger pistols. He even strikes a pose while brandishing a selfie stick.

The two-minute video is set to a track of light and bouncy jazz music as the images of Obama alternate with those of an actor who has similar habits. Then comes the pitch: "The deadline for signing up for health insurance is February 15," the president says, repeatedly stumbling over the word February.

"In many cases you can get health insurance for less than 100 per month. Just go to healthcare.gov to figure up how to sign up."

He then tries futilely to dunk an over-sized cookie into a tall glass of milk, saying "Thanks, Obama," after the actor trips on the sidewalks and spills his coffee.

The clip ends with the president sketching his wife in a notebook and then shooting an imaginary basketball into a waste paper basket. When the actor walks into his office and says, "Mr President?" Obama lifts his hands and asks, "Can I live?"
