US President Barack Obama says he can reassure allies of the United States that his successor Donald Trump supports NATO.
Obama, who is about to about to embark on his final overseas trip as president, has held his first press conference since Republican Trump won last Tuesday's election to succeed him.
He says on the week-long tour of Greece, Germany and Peru, he'll relay Trump's "commitment to NATO.
"As a candidate for president, Trump complained that other members of the treaty organisation did not contribute enough for the protections it affords."
Obama said the reassurance is "one of the most important functions" he can serve during the trip.
