A shoulder injury will prevent Ashton Turner from bowling in India, where the potential World Cup bolter is in line to make his ODI debut.
Offspinning allrounder Turner will be unable to roll his arm over during Australia's upcoming limited-overs tour of India, which features two Twenty20s and five one-dayers.
The 26-year-old, one of few Australians picked up in the recent Indian Premier League auction, has previously undergone three shoulder operations and may yet be booked in for more surgery this year.
But selectors are satisfied Turner's work with the willow warranted inclusion in the Indian touring party named on Thursday, handing the gifted batsman an ideal chance to stake his claim for a spot in the World Cup squad.
"I've made myself available to play, albeit in a restricted capacity, but I feel I'm batting well enough to justify selection in these white-ball teams," Turner told reporters in Perth.
"My shoulder, eventually I'm probably going to have to have something done.
"We're going to sit down next week with some specialists, have the conversation and brainstorm the options.
"It's a really weird one. It's only at that extreme range of motion that I have any instability ... it (bowling) is pretty much the only thing."
Turner, having developed under the tutelage of Justin Langer at the Perth Scorchers and Western Australia in recent seasons, made his international T20 debut in 2017 but was overlooked by national selectors last year because of shoulder trouble.
Turner has been restricted in recent weeks but nonetheless enhanced his reputation as arguably the Big Bash League's best middle-order batsman, scoring 378 runs to be one of few shining lights for Perth.
"His running between the wickets is unbelievable ... he's in great form," Langer said last month, when Turner was called into the ODI squad as cover for an ill Mitch Marsh.
"You see the way he finishes innings that he's a good thinker and a really good leader."
Turner is desperate to make the most of his opportunity.
"I honestly had tingles down my spine when I got the call," he said.
