Office plaque typo leaves Coalition red-faced

The parliamentary office plaque for Senator Michaelia Cash has been quickly replaced after it accidentally labelled her Minister Assisting the Prime Minister for Woman.

The Coalition has been left red-faced after a typo has re-ignited debate about the number of women in Prime Minister Tony Abbott's cabinet.

One of the glass name plates installed on the offices of the freshly-minted Abbott government has described Senator Michaelia Cash as "the Assistant Minister for Border Protection and the Minister Assisting the Prime Minister for Woman."

Prime Minister Tony Abbott has previously stated that he intends to take primary responsibility for women's issues, which under Labor were handled by Families Minister Jenny Macklin.

But the error has seen Mr Abbott once again draw criticism for appointing only one woman to his inner cabinet.

Labor MPs seized upon the goof, and social media was awash with incredulous criticism last night and well into the morning.

The sign has since been corrected.
