A 22-year-old man is expected to face court on driving charges over the incident at Leumeah on Friday night which left both senior constables with severe leg injuries.

NSW Police Commissioner Mick Fuller visited the less seriously injured officer at Liverpool Hospital on Saturday.

He told reporters he was in good spirits, while the other remained in intensive care after having part of one of his legs amputated.

"I again thank the hospital staff, the doctors, the nurses, the ambulance officers, for that response to the officers - and again, thank God we didn't lose a life last night," he said outside the hospital.

A hospital spokeswoman on Saturday morning said one of the injured officers was in a stable condition and the other was stable but still critical.

The driver of the vehicle, who was not injured, has since been charged with dangerous driving causing grievous bodily harm, causing bodily harm by misconduct in charge of a motor vehicle, negligent driving occasioning grievous bodily harm and using a mobile phone when not permitted.

His licence was suspended and he was refused bail to appear at Parramatta Bail Court on Saturday.

"This is the actions of a driver that could have taken the life of any community member, but it is aggravated by the fact that two officers were out on a Friday night trying to protect the community from this type of driving behaviour," Mr Fuller said.
