Ogilvy on song as Hawks maul Kings

The Illawarra Hawks have thrashed the bottom-of-the-table Sydney Kings 114-90 to retain third spot on the NBL ladder.

AJ Ogilvy and Kirk Penney have inspired the Illawarra Hawks to a comprehensive 114-90 NBL win over the Sydney Kings.

The big victory at the Sydney Olympic Park Sports Centre on Saturday night keeps Illawarra in third spot on the table with just eight regular-season matches remaining for the Hawks.

Illawarra's 211cm centre Ogilvy, who played with the Kings between 2013-14, bagged 19 points and six rebounds while veteran Penney had six three-pointers in a game-high 29 points.

Their key contributions ensured the Hawks sealed a 4-0 series clean sweep over the bottom-of-the-ladder Kings (5-16) in 2015-16 and came after suffering a loss to Melbourne United on Thursday night.

The Hawks were able to easily open the Kings' defence to establish an early 14-point lead at the first break and the Kings never got back into the contest.

The Kings got within 10 points in the third term but the margin quickly bled out to a 28-point advantage at the final break 89-66.

Angus Brandt (25 points) and Josh Childress (18 points) were the best for the Kings.
