Geoff Ogilvy has dropped six shots over the last seven holes of his opening round at the US PGA Tour event in Texas to tumble down the leaderboard after a bright start.
The Australian, who has endured a horror season, was sitting pretty at four-under through 11 holes on Thursday at Colonial Country Club in Fort Worth before a triple-bogey seven on the 14th hole and three other bogeys ruined his round.
Ogilvy signed for a two-over 72 to sit tied for 73rd, eight shots behind leader Bryce Molder who birdied six of his last nine holes for a six-under 64 and a one-stroke lead.
Patrick Reed, Anirban Lahiri and Webb Simpson shot 65.
Colonial member Ryan Palmer was among four players tied for fifth at 66.
Jordan Spieth, the world's No.2 ranked player, had a 67 even after missing the first six fairways.
Molder was in the first group of the day off the 10th tee, and was on the 16th green when play was stopped for 75 minutes because of rain and lightning.
He completed his seventh of nine consecutive pars when play resumed, then had all of his birdies on the front nine.
Of the other Australians, Marc Leishman is best at two-under 68, followed by Steven Bowditch (69), Matt Jones (70), Aaron Baddeley (71), John Senden (72), Adam Scott (72) and Ogilvy.
Ogilvy, the 2006 US Open champion, has missed the cut in 10 of 14 tournaments with his best result a tie for 46th at the Houston Open in March.
