Australian swimming team veteran Bronte Barratt will retire after the Rio Olympics, provided she gets there.

A member of the national team since 2004, freestyler Barratt, 27, hopes to earn selection for her third Olympics at next week's Rio trials in Adelaide.

"It will be good to give it one last crack," the Beijing Olympic 4x200m freestyle relay gold medallist said on Friday.
