Turkey's deputy prime minister has confirmed one person has died after two missiles were fired from Islamic State controlled zones in Syria.

One person has died and 10 others were injured in the southern Turkish city of Kilis after two rockets were launched from northern Syrian zones controlled by the Islamic State.

Turkey's Deputy Prime Minister Yalcin Akodgan is in Kilis and said two missiles exploded in a mosque about 100 metres from the Kilis City Hall.

Turkish media says Akodgan was at the administrative offices at the moment of impact.

A few hours earlier, two other rockets had hit the same city wounding 16 people, including several children.

Akodgan said the Turkish army responded to the attacks with artillery fire.
