One dead after car flips in Vic drag race

A man has died after two speeding cars clipped each other in Melbourne, causing one to flip onto its roof and burst into flames.

A man has died after his car flipped and burst into flames during a suspected street race in Melbourne.

The speeding car hit a power pole, flipped and burst into flames on Pascoe Vale Road about 1am on Saturday.

Police believe two cars were travelling at high speed when one of the vehicles clipped the other.

"It's clearly obvious that these cars are travelling at speed by the fact that a power pole has been cut in half," Detective Sergeant Mark Amos told reporters.

The driver of the second car, a 19-year-old Craigieburn man, is assisting police with their inquiries.
