One dead, one injured in NSW train crash

A man in his 40s is dead and a 50-year-old woman has been flown to a Canberra hospital after a train hit their ute at a level crossing in central NSW.

A man has died and a woman is in a serious condition after a freight train struck their ute at a level crossing in central west NSW.

The male driver died at the scene while the 50-year-old woman was trapped for more than an hour after the pair's Toyota Hilux was hit by the train at Kiacatoo Road at Euabalong west of Parkes.

NSW Ambulance Assistant Commissioner Tony Gately said the scene was "confronting" for paramedics who attended about 7am on Friday.

The woman was taken to nearby Lake Cargelligo hospital before being flown to Canberra in a serious condition with injuries to her face and shoulder.

Australian Rail Track Corporation said the train was bound for Sydney and services weren't expected to resume under late on Friday afternoon.

The Australian Transport Safety Bureau was notified of the incident, but it will be investigated by the independent NSW Office of Transport Safety Investigation.
