One killed, 22 injured in Indon quake

One person was killed when a magnitude-5.4 earthquake hit Indonesia's Buru island at the weekend.

An earthquake that struck Indonesia's Buru island at the weekend killed one person and injured 22 others, officials say.

At least 68 houses were heavily damaged in South Buru district after the magnitude-5.4 quake on Sunday morning, said Sutopo Nugroho, a spokesman for the National Disaster Management Agency.

More than 170 homes suffered less serious damage, he said.

The quake occurred at a depth of 10km, with its epicentre 66km southeast of South Buru.
