Queensland One Nation Leader Steve Dickson has announced the party won't run a candidate against Labor's Jo-Ann Miller at the next state election.
Former cabinet minister Ms Miller, recontesting the seat of Bundamba in Ipswich, is heading the inquiry into Black Lung disease in coal miners.
One Nation was yet to fill the Bundamba candidacy after previous party candidate Shan Ju Lin was dumped in January for making several homophobic social media posts.
Mr Dickson said the party had not struggled to find a replacement candidate, but ultimately he didn't want to remove an MP doing good work.
"I had three candidates who wanted to run in that seat," Mr Dickson told AAP.
"I don't want to get rid of any politicians that are looking after the people of Queensland and I made the point very clear, Jo-Ann Miller has been a fantastic advocate."
Mr Dickson said he admired how Ms Miller took her own government to task during previous years estimates hearings, and looked forward to her doing it again in state parliament this week.
For her part Ms Miller said she was "stunned" by the announcement.
"One Nation has run against me in past elections, I'm known for my fierce independence and advocacy, and I think that has now been recognised by One Nation," Ms Miller told AAP.
"No one can take One Nation for granted in Queensland.
"I believe that certainly people are having a second look at the major political parties, and no candidate in any seat can take this next state election for granted."
The state election is due by early May 2018, but is tipped to be called before the end of this year.
