Opals handed tough World Cup draw

Australia's women will face Turkey, Argentina and Nigeria in their FIBA World Cup group in Tenerife in September.

Australia's women's basketball team have been drawn against Turkey, Argentina and African champions Nigeria in Group B for September's FIBA World Cup in Tenerife.

The Opals, currently ranked fourth in the world, qualified for the tournament last July after beating North Korea to reach the semi-finals of the Asia Cup.

Olympic champions USA are pitted against China, Senegal and Latvia in Group D, while Group A features Canada, France, Greece and Korea.

Belgium, Japan, Puerto Rico and hosts Spain make up Group C after Tuesday's draw for the event, which takes place between September 22-30.

In 2014, the most recent World Cup, USA took the gold medal, while Spain captured silver and Australia won bronze.
