It will soon become easier to get a new business up and running with the Commonwealth and states agreeing on streamlining procedures.
Industry Minister Greg Hunt says most people would be astonished at what was required to set up even a basic small business.
"If you want to set up a cafe in Parramatta region, when you look at federal, state and local regulations, there are up to 48 forms, 75 different regulations and it can take 18 months," he told ABC radio on Friday
Mr Hunt said that would be reduced to less than three months and a single simple process.
All states and territories had signed onto the national business simplification initiative.
"The people who are setting up a business just want to be able to get it done and get on with the job," he said.
Mr Hunt said the simpler it was to set up a business, the more people would do it, creating more jobs.
