An inter-species social gathering of a differnt kind will be hosted at the iconic Sydney Opera House next month.

Music for Dogs - a high-frequency outdoor concert which aims to captivate canines while being inaudible to their owners - will take over the northern boardwalk on June 5.

The concert is inspired by the music of New York musician Laurie Anderson who has been playing to her beloved rat terrier, Lollabelle, for 11 years.

The experimental concert is part of the upcoming Vivid Live music festival which kicks off at the Opera House on May 27.
