Oppn calls for more answers on Customs corruption

Opposition Customs spokesman, Michael Keenan, says the government must give a full explanation into what's going on at the Customs Service, before any royal commission into allegations of corruption.

The opposition says Labor's cuts on Customs funding left it open to exploitation from criminals.



Mr Keenan says suggestions that whistleblower and former Australian Customs officer, Allan Kessing, should be pardoned is a separate issue.

Mr Keenan spoke to the ABC last night after a quarantine officer, two Customs officers, and five members of the public were charged after an investigation into corruption and drug smuggling at Sydney airport.

Former Australian Federal Police officer, Ross Fusca, who investigated corruption at Melbourne's docks, has also told the ABC the government must hold a commission of inquiry or a royal commission, if Australian Customs officials are found to have been
