A coalition staffer has been accused of threatening a government employee's job security as punishment for helping Peter Beattie's campaign.

Labor candidate Peter Beattie says he's deeply concerned about claims the coalition threatened the job of a government worker who joined his campaign team.

Fairfax media says an adviser to federal opposition tourism spokesman Bob Baldwin allegedly made a call to the campaigner, which left him fearing for his job.

Fairfax said the campaigner had taken an unpaid leave of absence from his job with a government tourism body to work on Mr Beattie's campaign.

During an August 22 phone call, it's alleged Mr Baldwin's adviser told the campaigner: "Your partisan behaviour will have implications after the election."

Queensland ALP state secretary Anthony Chisholm has written to LNP federal director Brian Loughnane this week about the matter, the report said.

Mr Beattie took to Twitter on Friday to express his concern about the matter.

"I know politics is a rough business but this crosses the line," the former Queensland premier tweeted. A coalition party spokeswoman has told Fairfax the claims are baseless.

AAP has sought comment from both Labor and the coalition. LNP Premier Campbell Newman told reporters the claims were absolute nonsense.

"It's again, more sort of attention seeking, disorder from Mr Beattie," Mr Newman said. "First it was:'They are taking down my signs'."

Earlier this week, Mr Beattie said thieves had made off with about 100 of his election signs. "This is not happening to other candidates in Forde," he said.
