Optus has been slapped with a $51,000 fine after making false claims about the speed of its broadband internet services.
The ACCC said the telco advertised its cable broadband plans as having "NBN-like" speeds, when its service is actually slower.
"As consumers migrate to the NBN, the ACCC's action in this matter is a timely reminder to broadband internet providers that they must not misrepresent the performance of the services they are selling, ACCC chairman Rod Sims said in a statement on Thursday.
Optus has paid the fine.
