Aryna Sabalenka has continued her stunning run of form by sweeping aside former grand slam champion Garbine Muguruza to reach the last 16 of the China Open in Beijing.

The 20-year-old Belarusian won the Wuhan Open last week and stretched her unbeaten run with a 7-5 6-4 victory, fending off early break points and fighting back from a break down early in the second set.

It was another headline-grabbing performance from Sabalenka, who will face Caroline Garcia in the next round after the fourth seed defeated qualifier Polona Hercog 7-6 (2) 6-3.

Recent US Open champion Naomi Osaka also continued her fine run as she required just 52 minutes to dispatch American Danielle Collins 6-1 6-0 and secure a last-eight meeting with 10th seed Julia Goerges.

Sloane Stephens defeated home wild card Saisai Zheng 6-1 6-3 while third seed Angelique Kerber also advanced with a 7-6 (7-4) 6-1 win over Spanish veteran Carla Suarez Navarro.

Number 11 seed Kiki Bertens advanced with a 6-1 6-1 win over Kirsten Flipkens but 12th seed and former French Open champion Jelena Ostapenko suffered an embarrassing 6-0 6-0 whitewash to Chinese wildcard Qiang Wang.

Other winners on Tuesday were Dominika Cibulkova, Anett Kontaveit and Czech qualifier Katerina Siniakova.
