Osama, Obama and the bridesmaid

As far-fetched as it may sound, Osama, Obama and Pippa do have something in common - they all appear in our top ten stories this week.

Osama Bin Laden has been the name on everyone's lips this week, so it comes as little surprise that half of this week's top ten stories - voted in clicks by our readers - were on the raid that saw US Navy Seals kill one of the world's most wanted men.

At number one was the news of Osama Bin Laden's death and President Barack Obama proclaiming that 'justice had been done', followed closely by the photo gallery from the Royal Wedding in London as the second biggest clicker of the week.

At number three, still on the topic of Osama Bin Laden and terrorism, but from a slightly more humorous angle, is the story about the US school teacher who vowed after the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001, that he would not shave his beard until Bin Laden was caught.

Number 17 of 57 siblings and part of a family made rich by the Saudi oil boom, our factbox about Osama Bin Laden came in at number four.

At number five, Julia Gillard was 'summoned for a meeting with the Queen' during the royal wedding reception. We have no idea what they talked about, perhaps Liz wanted the number of Julia's hairdresser?

The PM has had a hard time keeping out of the spotlight this week, and her comments about Pakistan still being an ally of Australia certainly caught our readers' attention at number six.

While we're on spotlights, Kate Middleton's sister Pippa has been accused by some of stealing it from her sister. The twitterverse went gaga over her appearance as soon as she stepped out of the Rolls-Royce outside Westminster Abbey, and she quickly became the most searched-for term on Google.

President Obama decided against releasing photos of Osama Bin Laden's body because it wasn't “in the interest of US national security”, but the Reuters news agency released extremely graphic images which were taken inside Bin Laden's Pakistani compound only an hour after the al-Qaeda leader was killed.

The relationship between the US and Pakistan became increasingly tense after the news of Bin Laden's death broke, and the article about Pakistan alerting the US to its suspicions about a compound where Osama Bin Laden was found hiding as far back as 2009 came in at number nine of the most read articles this week.

Finally at number ten, it's certainly been a few hectic weeks for Barack Obama. Before Bin Laden was killed it was the billionaire businessman and would-be Republican challenger Donald Trump that kept him on his toes by questioning the authenticity of the President's birth certificate.

At a White House Correspondents' Association annual dinner Obama grabbed the opportunity to mock Trump, saying that now the birth certificate had been released Trump could focus on the serious issues, from whether the moon landing actually happened to "where are Biggie and Tupac?"
