Overseas travel up, cabin crew down

New figures from the Australian Bureau of Statistics shows that the number of Aussies taking a short holiday overseas has risen by 20 per cent in April, encouraged by the high currency.

Despite the increase, the airline industry as a whole is facing tough times.

Qantas is seeking to slash its cabin crew workforce by five per cent after it reduced capacity and some routes earlier this year.

The culprit? The continued high cost of jet fuel.
