Callum Ferguson has labelled paceman Joe Mennie a nightmare to face in the nets and he's hoping his South Australian teammate can make South Africa's batsmen sweat in the second Test at Bellerive Oval starting on Saturday.
The 27-year-old is due to make his Test debut for Australia in Hobart after Peter Siddle was ruled out with a back injury, and Ferguson - who is also a chance of wearing the baggy green for the first time - has been given a working over by Mennie at Redbacks training over the years.
"He's a guy that finds movement on glass - he's a nightmare in the nets," batsman Ferguson told reporters on Thursday.
"The South Australian batsmen have had nightmares about him for years."
Mennie made his first one-day international appearance on the recent tour of South Africa and copped a pasting in Johannesburg - his 0-82 the worst figures by an Australian on ODI debut.
He was dropped for the next two games, but in Cape Town for the fifth and final ODI, Mennie showed plenty of skill and composure to rebound from his horror debut 10 days earlier.
The right-armer extracted seam movement off the Newlands pitch and snared the three prized wickets of Hashim Amla, Faf du Plessis and JP Duminy on the way to figures of 3-49.
"His resilience levels are huge and certainly to bounce back from the first game... spoke volumes of the character and certainly he's the kind of guy you want in the team," Ferguson said.
If the Bellerive pitch stays as green as it was on Thursday, or at least with a decent cover of grass, it's sure to suit Mennie, added Ferguson.
"He doesn't give you room to breath as a batsman and certainly that's something the South Africans will find out."
