Packers, Patriots among NFL week 1 winners

Aaron Rodgers and Tom Brady have led the Green Bay Packers and New England Patriots respectively to first-up wins in the NFL.

Aaron Rodgers has thrown three touchdown passes in the second half as the Green Bay Packers overcame a 20-point deficit for a thrilling 24-23 win over the Chicago Bears.

Rodgers, who was carted off the field in the first half with a knee injury, connected with receiver Randall Cobb for a catch-and-run 75-yard touchdown and the go-ahead score with 2:13min left in the game.

A Chicago defence featuring newly acquired star linebacker Khalil Mack dominated until the third quarter.

Mack had a 27-yard interception return for a touchdown against back-up quarterback DeShone Kizer in the second quarter.

Rodgers returned in the second half and finished 20 of 30 for 286 yards as the Packers recorded a franchise record 17-point fourth-quarter comeback.

Reigning league MVP Tom Brady threw for 277 yards and three touchdowns in the New England Patriot's 27-20 win over the Houston Texans.

Brady and Rob Gronkowski, who both floated the possibility of retiring over the off-season, connected seven times, including a 21-yard touchdown.

Jakeem Grant scored on a tiebreaking 102-yard kickoff return with 14 minutes to go, and the Miami Dolphins overcame two weather delays to win the longest game since the 1970 NFL-AFL merger 27-20 against the Tennessee Titans.

Delays for lightning lasted a total of almost four hours and the game took seven hours, 10 minutes to play.
