Former Test wicketkeeper Tim Paine will headline the typically inexperienced Cricket Australia XI side to take on England in two Ashes warm-up matches this month.

Paine and two-time Australian one-day bowler Gurinder Sandhu will make up the bulk of the experience in the squad in four-day matches in Adelaide and Townsville next month.

Outside of the pair, the 12-man squad features just 31 first-class matches between them in what will be England's last two matches before the opening Gabba Test in Brisbane.

"These guys now have a really exciting opportunity in front of them to showcase their skills against a world-class England side," Troy Cooley, Australia's National Performance Program coach, said.

"The Youth Selection Panel has identified these players, in conjunction with our State Talent Managers, as talented cricketers who deserve added opportunities to test their abilities in high-pressure environments."

The November 14-17 Townsville fixture will also clash with the third round of the Sheffield Shield, however Paine has been overlooked by Tasmanian selectors for Australian 'keeper Matthew Wade in the opening rounds of the competition.

Paine, 32, played for Australia in the most recent Twenty20 tour of India last month, but has not played Test cricket for Australia since 2010.

Sandhu has also been unable to break into the NSW Shield team with Mitchell Starc, Josh Hazlewood and Trent Copeland leading their star-studded attack.

"Tim Paine, as a player with international experience in all three formats of the game, will bring a lot of experience and leadership to the squad," Cooley said.

Meanwhile the November 8-11 clash at the Adelaide Oval will represent England's first chance to play with the pink ball in Australia ahead of the day-night Test at the ground this summer.

The selections follows on from the largely inexperienced Western Australia XI line up named to play England in a two-day match at the WACA this weekend.

CA XI: Jake Carder, Jackson Coleman, Michael Cormack, Daniel Fallins, Ryan Gibson, Nick Larkin, Simon Milenko, Tim Paine, Will Pucovski, Gurinder Sandhu, Jason Sangha, Matthew Short.
