Palaszczuk rules out Qld cabinet shakeup

Annastacia Palaszczuk will not reshuffle her cabinet despite mounting concerns that more regional MPs should be given prime positions at the table.

A cabinet reshuffle is apparently not on the cards for Queensland despite serious concerns from Labor backbenchers bush voters are not being heard.

No electorates between Townsville and Caboolture have a seat at the cabinet table, but some MPs say that needs to change after Labor was wiped out in Queensland at Saturday's federal poll.

Ms Palaszczuk says she's been listening to the regions for years and is travelling to regional Queensland to keep doing so this week.

But when asked if she was considering a reshuffle to take in MPs from some of the state's most far flung corners, a spokesman for the premier said: "No".

Her government is under renewed pressure to make a decision over Adani's plans to mine coal in the Galilee Basin, with indecision on the huge project also blamed for Labor's election losses.

The drawn out process of approving the Indian company's proposal to produce thermal coal for export has frustrated voters in central and northern communities that would benefit from the jobs it could create.

Keppel MP Brittany Lauga says the regions must be better represented in cabinet to ensure local issues are heard during key decision making processes.

But Ms Lauga says she would decline a ministry position if approached.

"It's not my time," she told AAP.

Maryborough MP Bruce Saunders wants to see a new portfolio carved out to focus solely on local communities.

"We need a minister for regional communities," he said.

State and federal MPs say the Palaszczuk government's handling of Adani's proposal is partly to blame for Labor's loss at the poll on Saturday.

There are concerns within the Queensland government's ranks the issue could cause havoc at next year's state election, and they want a decision sooner than later.

Adani says the government is constantly shifting the goal posts when it comes to environmental approvals, but the government says it is treating it like any other miner.
