Palmer denies reports of excess nickel

Clive Palmer has distanced himself from reports elevated levels of nickel have been found in sediment near his embattled Townsville refinery.

Mr Palmer issued a statement late on Friday, saying his refinery has not been in operation and there had been no nickel at the site when samples were last taken in November.

He said the reading, reported by News Corp, was high because "someone put it there".
