Penrith coach Anthony Griffin has axed Jamie Soward, with the Panthers' playmaker having accepted responsibility for their last-start NRL loss to Melbourne.

Bryce Cartwright replaces Soward and joins Nathan Cleary in a rookie Panthers halves combination for Sunday's round-14 match against Manly.

James Segeyaro is again not a part of Griffin's 17 named on Tuesday evening. Segeyaro and Soward have both been named to play NSW Cup on Saturday against Manly at Penrith.

Soward admitted earlier on Tuesday he was struggling for form.

"I didn't really perform the game plan that the coach wanted there and let us down, especially with a young half (Cleary)," Soward said.

"I think if you're not winning and you don't perform, we're all under the gun, myself included.

"I don't have to talk to my teammates about it. They knew I was upset. But it's up to me to do it.

"The buck stops with me."

In other team news, Robbie Farah has been recalled to the Wests Tigers' line-up for their Friday night clash with South Sydney at ANZ Stadium despite reports of further drama between him and coach Jason Taylor.

Farah was rested from the Tigers' Sunday loss to the Sydney Roosters.

Zac Santo ends a two-year break from the NRL as Canberra fullback in place of the suspended Jack Wighton for Thursday's round-14 opener against Brisbane at Suncorp Stadium.

Jacob Saifiti and Korbin Sims join an extended Newcastle bench for Saturday's match against the Warriors at Hunter Stadium.

Gold Coast hooker Nathan Peats has been named on the bench for his first match against Parramatta in Darwin on Saturday night since being squeezed out of the Eels due to their salary-cap dramas. Former Warrior Konrad Hurrell has also been named on the Titans' bench and could make his club debut.

Latrell Mitchell has overcome an ankle injury to be named at fullback for the Roosters who host Melbourne at Allianz Stadium, however forward Isaac Liu (ankle) is replaced in the Tricolours' 17 by Mitchell Frei. Mitchell Pearce continues to battle a calf injury and hasn't been named.

Dylan Walker and Apisai Koroisau again form a makeshift halves combination for Manly for the Brookvale Oval clash with the Panthers, with Daly Cherry-Evans and Jamie Lyon both sidelined by injury.

Siliva Havili replaces Josh McCrone in St George Illawarra's side for Monday's match with Canterbury at ANZ Stadium.

Michael Morgan returns from injury for North Queensland's match on Monday night against Cronulla at Shark Park.
