Penrith utility Tyrone May has been identified as the NRL player allegedly involved in the latest sex tape scandal to rock the competition.

May has been withdrawn from the Panthers' Saturday evening trial against Parramatta as the governing body investigates the matter.

"The club has withdrawn Tyrone May from today's game and are awaiting a decision from the NRL integrity unit on the matter," Panthers chief executive Brian Fletcher told the Nine Network on Saturday.

The development came a day after the Panthers became the latest in a lengthening list of clubs to enter damage control due to an off-field incident.

May appears to be involved in two videos, including one where he calls a woman a "ratbag" and pushes the back of her head during a sex act with another man.

The second video shows a man physically striking a woman across the chest, and putting his hand around her throat while in the act of sex.

May's face isn't in view during both videos, however he is identifiable due to a distinguishing tattoo on his left arm.

A NRL spokesperson on Friday confirmed the matter had been referred to the integrity unit, however it is unclear what May's punishment could be.

The Panthers apologised to stakeholders for the latest drama, and vowed to punish any of their players involved.

"Panthers players and staff are acutely aware of the responsibility they have to the club and to the game to maintain impeccable standards of behaviour," Penrith said on Saturday in a statement.

"The club does not hesitate to act by way of disciplinary action when these standards are not met."

The probe on Friday came within hours of NRL boss Todd Greenberg promising to crack down on players appearing in lewd videos after the Dylan Napa saga.

Napa was fined 10 per cent of his salary after old three videos were leaked of the Canterbury signing engaging in sexual acts.

Mindful of further videos being leaked, the governing body opted to fine Napa instead of suspending him from NRL matches.
