Recently dumped to reserve grade, Josh Papalii has shown there are no hard feelings by knocking back South Sydney's interest to re-sign with Canberra for another four NRL seasons.
The Queensland forward says he hopes to be a one club player after bouncing back from his shock axing in April to remain in the nation's capital until the end of 2022.
It is a remarkable turnaround for Papalii who appeared on the outer with coach Ricky Stuart when relegated to reserve grade after Canberra's woeful 0-4 season start.
The Raiders wrecking ball was openly linked to a lucrative Rabbitohs move.
"I had my options there but I've got two kids and a partner myself and you take that into perspective and the best option for them and my footy career was to stay here," Papalii said.
"It wasn't hard at all.
"Security was the biggest key behind my contract but like I said from the start of my career, once a Canberra Raider always a Raider.
"I'm happy to keep the green jersey on my back. That (new deal) will be me to 30 and hopefully I'll still be getting better as age goes on."
Stuart said the way Papalii responded to his surprise reserve grade stint had made it "quite easy" to re-sign the Maroons wrecking ball.
"He's a really big influence on a number of other players especially with how he's turned his game around," Stuart said.
"He's such a pro with regards to his preparation, the way he's playing at the moment and taken his game to another level moving into the middle (at lock) is a big bonus for us.
Stuart said the way Papalii had turned himself around and changed his attitude made the new deal "quite easy".
Papalii hit back to not only nail down a starting spot but retain his Queensland bench role for the State of Origin series opener in Melbourne.
He is now the Maroons' most experienced forward with 10 Origins and is expected to keep his spot when the side for June 24's must-win game two is announced on Monday.
Papalii's signing is a shot in the arm for Canberra ahead of Sunday's clash with Wests Tigers after learning they will lose props Junior Paulo (Parramatta) and Shannon Boyd (Gold Coast) next year.
They hope his signature helps convince other stars to stay.
They include playmaker Aidan Sezer, who is set to confirm a new two-year deal, reserve rake Siliva Havili, prop Dunamis Lui and fellow forward Sia Soliola, all who are reportedly close to re-signing.
