A couple who sparked a NSW police search after going missing with their six-day-old son are set to face court.

Police appealed for the boy's parents to take their son to hospital on Saturday, four days after a health worker first raised the alarm, saying the infant was suffering a medical condition and might require treatment.

A number of family members took the baby to hospital on Saturday, and the boy is now in the care of medical staff at the Sydney Children's Hospital.

His 25-year-old father was arrested at Mascot about 6pm and his 28-year-old mother arrested two hours later at the hospital.

Both have been charged by virtue of arrest warrants, and refused bail to appear at Parramatta Bail Court via audio visual link on Sunday.
