Federal Environment Minister Josh Frydenberg denies the Paris climate change agreement is dead in the wake of Donald Trump's presidential victory.

Mr Frydenberg is headed to the UN climate change conference in Morocco, which will focus on how signatory nations will implement last year's treaty to curb the rise of carbon emissions and global temperatures.

He told ABC Radio on Friday he didn't want to pre-empt Mr Trump's actions but warned it would take four years for the US to pull out of the agreement.

"I don't think Paris is dead," he said.

"No country can unilaterally end the agreement."

Mr Frydenberg pointed out that more than 190 countries had adopted the deal.

It was important for the US to be at the table on climate change action because it was the world's biggest economy and a big carbon emitter.
