Sydney midfield dynamo Luke Parker has signed a five-year contract extension which will keep him with the Swans until the end of 2021.

The 23-year-old, who won the club's best-and-fairest award in 2014, recently expressed his desire to stay at the club and on Friday committed to a long-term AFL deal.

"He's a club champion at a young age, the youngest player ever elected to the Swans leadership group, a fantastic person to have around the footy club and a terrific player," Sydney's general manager of football Tom Harley said.

The contract extension dashes the hopes of rival clubs looking to target the courageous onballer, who was in the final year of his contract.

Parker played in Sydney's 2012 premiership in just his second year with the club and has cemented himself as an important part of the Swans' strong midfield contingent.

"When you look at your list, and you look at the on and off field attributes you want your players to display, Luke certainly ticks those boxes," Harley said.

"To have Luke, a Victorian kid, commit to the Swans for five-plus years is just a fantastic endorsement of the footy club."

Parker missed the Swans' 2015 finals campaign with a fractured ankle but is now back in full training.
