Another Australian icon will be lit up in the colours of the French flag as the world reels from the unprecedented terror attacks in Paris.

Australia's Parliament House will light up in blue, white and red at 8pm on Sunday, Senate President Stephen Parry and House of Representatives Speaker Tony Smith said in a joint statement.

Senator Parry, who marched in Paris in the wake of the Charlie Hebdo terror attacks earlier this year, praised the spirit of the French people.

"Again in the wake of this horrific terrorist attack, the Parliaments of our two nations resolve that our mutual commitment to the liberty of free peoples will never be diminished," the joint statement said.

The Sydney Opera House was among several buildings across Australia which illuminated in the colours of the French Tricolore over the weekend as a sign of respect for France.

A massive French flag also continues to fly high above the Sydney Harbour Bridge.
