Police have arrested and charged two people for last month's murder of Gold Coast businessman Shyam 'Sam' Dhody.

The partner of a slain Gold Coast businessman has been charged with his murder.

Indian-born Shyam `Sam' Dhody, 37, was shot dead at his home in Gilston on July 5.

His girlfriend told police she'd discovered his body on their bed after she returned home from work and officers had frequently denied she was a suspect in the killing.

But she was arrested and taken in handcuffs for an interview at Surfers Paradise Police Station on Tuesday.

Three hours later police then announced they had formally charged the woman and transferred her to the Southport watchhouse.

She is due to face Southport Magistrates Court on Wednesday when an application for bail is expected to be lodged.

The woman has also been charged with attempted murder relating to an assault on Mr Dhody in March when he was allegedly beaten with a crowbar and a concrete pot outside his former Molendinar home.

Her lawyer Jason Jacobson says she is "in shock" and intends to fight the charges.

"She absolutely denies any involvement whatsoever in either of the alleged offences," he told reporters.

"We are going to do our best to proceed with an application to the Supreme Court for her bail as soon as possible."

A 32-year-old man was also arrested and he was due to receive a bedside hearing at the Prince Charles Hospital in Brisbane to be formally charged with murder and attempted murder later on Tuesday.

The arrests are the latest twist in the investigation, with police long suspecting the alleged assault in March was linked to Mr Dhody's murder.

Late last month police announced they had seized a purple 2004 Ford Falcon sedan and confirmed properties in northern NSW and at Bribie Island, north of Brisbane, had been raided.

It had been initially thought Mr Dhody's death was linked to his business practices, having been declared bankrupt two years ago and with reports the Australian Securities and Investment Commission were preparing to have his company Roadside Group struck off.
