A 15-year-old Austrian girl robbed her grandparents' house not once but twice, spending the 20,000 euros ($26,800) proceeds in just two weeks partying with her friends, police said.

The girl first broke into the house in Bad Vigaun near Salzburg in western Austria while the grandparents were on holiday on November 24, together with three other teenagers and two men in their 20s, police said.

With 75 euros from the house, one of the group took a taxi to a nearby shop and returned laden down with alcohol, which they then proceeded to drink until the girl's great uncle, who happened to be passing, put an end to the party.

The girl decided to break into the house again three days later, this time just with her 17-year-old boyfriend, taking around 9,300 euros in cash and 10,500 euros worth of goods including jewelry, a gold bar and coin collections.

After "intensive investigations", the two teens confessed and told officers they did it "in order to get as much cash as possible, as quickly as possible," Salzburg police said in a statement.

"All the proceeds have since been spent, with the help of several friends, in different bars in (the nearby town of) Hallein and in Vienna. Only a few pieces of jewelry were recovered and returned to the victims."
