Pat Cummins' dream summer continues

Australian paceman Pat Cummins says he couldn't have dreamed of the cricket summer he is experiencing just a few months ago.

Australian paceman Pat Cummins is pinching himself.

Cummins had a simple goal last November: play in the first Ashes Test.

Beyond that, Cummins knew his injury-prone body offered no guarantees.

So he's as surprised as anyone to have played in all five Tests and three of the four one-dayers against England.

"It has been pretty much a dream summer - a summer I couldn't have hoped for really," Cummins said after his career-best one-day international figures of 4-24 in Australia's three-wicket win against England on Friday.

"At the start of the summer I kind of had my eyes on the Gabba Test and then hopefully the couple after."

Cummins even cautioned family and friends against booking tickets to watch him play in the Boxing Day Test - the fourth of the Ashes series.

"I was like 'no, just hold off, you never know what is going to happen'," he said.

"So to get here, playing pretty much every game and not having any niggles really, it's something pretty foreign to me.

"It has been great to have a bit of success as well.

"It feels like I'm bowling well and still feel relatively fresh."

Cummins hopes to play again on Sunday in the ODI series finale at Perth's new stadium.

England carry a 3-1 lead into the Perth fixture, with Cummins and the Australians relieved to have avoided a series whitewash by winning in Adelaide.

Cummins and fellow quick Josh Hazlewood laid the platform for victory, reducing England to 5-8 within seven overs.

The tourists, courtesy of Chris Woakes' 78, managed to reach 196 all out.

Australia, with recalled Travis Head top-scoring with 96, reached the target with 13 overs to spare but lost seven wickets in the chase.
