Jurors in the trial of former Bundaberg surgeon Jayant Patel are locked in stalemate.
They will continue deliberating next week after again perusing the evidence of one witness.
The jury retired on Thursday afternoon to consider whether Patel, 63, should be convicted of causing grievous bodily harm to patient Ian Vowles in 2004.
But on Friday afternoon the panel of six men and six women sent a note to Judge Terry Martin, who reconvened the court and read the message aloud.
It said jurors were in a stalemate on some issues and asked for a transcript of the evidence of one of the witnesses - a doctor.

Judge Martin said the transcript would be given to the jury, or read to them, on Monday.
Patel is accused of unnecessarily removing Mr Vowles' large bowel to treat a benign polyp, and giving him no alternative to the invasive procedure.
Mr Vowles, 66, requires a colostomy bag for life and suffers fatigue and impotence.
The former surgeon's defence team says Mr Vowles had a family history of colon cancer and the operation guaranteed him a cancer free future.
