The trouble-plagued and long-delayed Perth Children's Hospital is finally fully open, replacing Princess Margaret Hospital as the state's only specialist paediatric hospital and major trauma centre.
Fifteen ambulances were used to transfer 90 patients to the new $1.2 billion facility on Sunday, with special software used to electronically scan each patient and track them during the move.
Intensive care patients were transported with a medical team, while specially equipped neonatal ambulances transferred babies requiring a high level of care.
Health Minister Roger Cook said it was the biggest medical move of children in WA's history, with 650 staff involved.
"These are the most vulnerable patients in our system ... it's been a very careful operation, a very complex logistical exercise," he told reporters.
Patients from the Bentley Adolescent Unit will move this week.
The emergency department at PMH has now officially closed.
Mr Cook said PMH had served the community for more than 108 years and left a lasting legacy.
He conceded there would likely be some teething problems at the new facility.
