Pay attention on the roads: SA Police

Six people have died on South Australian roads this month prompting a reminder from police for drivers and pedestrians to pay attention to driving conditions.

A 21-year-old man has become the sixth person to die on South Australian roads in the last nine days prompting police to plead with drivers and pedestrians to pay attention and take care.

The man, from Woodside, was the sole occupant of his car when it ploughed into a tree on South Ridge Road in the Adelaide Hills in the early hours of Sunday morning with his death bringing the state road toll to 47 this year.

"Any death on our roads is a tragedy and already this month alone we have seen six people die on our roads," Acting Superintendent Ben Spencer said in a statement.

"Three of these have involved pedestrian deaths, and two appear to be related to speed, inattention and inexperience in changing conditions on our roads."

Acting Supt Spencer said the weather and road conditions could not be blamed for the tragedies and people needed to change their behaviour.

"Both pedestrians and drivers have an obligation to pay additional attention on dark wet nights," he said.

It was a busy night on the road for SA Police.

An 18-year-old P-plate driver was fined $1483 and had his licence suspended for six months after police clocked him speeding at 126km/h in a 60km/h zone in the outer Adelaide suburb of Hackham on Saturday night.

Two other men were also caught driving with blood alcohol readings about four times over the limit.

A 61-year-old Snowtown man was issued with a 12-month instant driving ban and is summonsed to appear in Clare Magistrates Court after he was caught driving with a reading of 0.202.

And a 51-year-old man has also lost his licence for 12 months after crashing into traffic lights in Gawler while driving with a blood alcohol level of 0.201.
